Ice Out Continued...

These pictures are from Thursday morning, May 15th.

Two days before opener and the Hudson launch on Lost Lake is still iced in.

Still lots of ice at Big Vermilion too.

At Deception all the snow melted off the road since last saturday and the ice is gone from in front of the launch too. Only a couple hundred yards of open water before deception arm is iced across though. I still wouldn't count on getting anywhere on Lac Seul from Hudson or Deception launch on opening day.

Pelican lake opened up quite a bit today and it looks like you could boat from Frog Rapids under the Iron Bridge now. So even if Lac Seul is a no-go on saturday there's still options closer to town on Pelican, Abram and Sturgeon River.

I didn't check it today but as of friday it was not open. I doubt it will be good to go until mid-week.

We are headed up Friday. Do you have info on lac seul and big vermiiian ice conditions.

Bobby and Jeremy,

Deception arm is ice free as of monday. I know for sure you can get to Ogama light, but I haven't been up farther to say for sure if you can get to Chamberlain. I would guess by Friday you'll be good to go. Haven't visited big V in almost a week but I'd guess it too will finally be iced out. It's getting warmer here starting on Thursday so if it's not totally gone by Friday it will go very fast after that.

Hi Ben, I was on the water today and made it as far as Japan Bay (ice free). There was a fairly solid ice flow about 50 yards north of Japan Bay. It extended across to Gunsight Island as well. The way to Mclean's Narrows was ice free as well. I didn't explore that direction to see if I could make it around and up to the north end though. Ken at Chamberlain was taking his service boat and another boat in an attempt to make it all the way up to Chamberlain today. They left at 3pm. Haven't hear whether they made it or not though.

Hi Rick, thanks for the info! Sounds like any day now and it'll be open to Chamberlain. I know the central basin, between Eagle Island and Manitoba Point is still 75% iced over!
